For My Sister

My sister died today.

She left behind her
       two wild horses
              four wild cats
                    a little money

       and all her dreams.

She was my younger sister.

I remember
the tricks I played on her
              before she learned to walk

the time she found and read my secret diary

how brilliant she was at calculus

how brave she was when push came to shove

how the love of her life
despite a heart once filled with hope
turned out to be a no-show

       and how,
'though she felt, when the die was cast,
there was no one to talk to at all,
Heaven filled up her final days
with the presence of family and friends.
