The Heart Is
a Wingéd Messenger

The heart is a wingéd messenger

At night, as I lay dreaming
It flies far, to some forgotten spring,
        drinks deep
        and sitting in that glen
       dreams with me

Dawn’s light, once more returning,
It leans to whisper in my ear:

Joy, joy, joy in the morning!
Joy in the breaking of the day
Joy in the tasks that lie before thee
Joy in the company of friends

Joy walk before thee and behind thee

Joy be thy rest along the way.
