Ganderland … a poem by Alice B. Clagett

A Poem by Alice B. Clagett
On the way to Lake Isabella, California
27 June 2003

Sometimes I feel like a DC-3,
intent upon a trans-Atlantic flight,
touched down, most disconcertingly,
on wind-swept Ganderland
to have its engine tweaked –

Only to find
wild poppies
dancing in a sea of green,
wafting their scent
across these idle wings.
