EL CORAZON
A Story by Alice B. Clagett
ca. 2010

A man told me something once,
and my mind keeps floating back to it
from time to time.
Not just to the words,
but to the way he said them
— with such certain, tender dignity.

“We are La Raza.
And what makes us
different from other people?”
He touched his chest.
“El corazón.”
