SONGS FOR A SPRING DAY
A Poem in Three Parts by Alice B. Clagett
April 2004

Spring!
. . . and the coral tree
. . . tickles the waking day
. . . . . . with carmine laughter.

Spring!
. . . and the coral tree
. . . lights tongues of fire
. . . upon our verdant lawn.

Spring!
. . . and the magnolia
. . . offers its sweet chalice to the breeze.
. . . Betimes, twixt here and there,
. . . its stalwart roots
. . . entice our hearts
. . . . . . to rest.
